We recently embarked on a three-day getaway to the serene shores of Moclips, Washington. The Pacific Northwest's rugged coastline provided the perfect backdrop for a weekend filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories. And Moclips is the perfect peaceful place if you love Ocean Shores but perhaps tire of all the tourists during season.

Beachside Bliss in Moclips

Our days began with the soothing sounds of waves crashing against the shore. Moclips, known for its expansive sandy stretches and dramatic ocean views, invited us to indulge in timeless seaside activities.

We flew vibrant kites that danced in the coastal breeze, constructed fun sandcastles, and walked the beach as a family with Stella, SP, in tow.

Culinary Delights and Friendly Faces at The Green Lantern

A highlight of our trip was dining at The Green Lantern, a cherished local establishment near Moclips. This cozy eatery exudes rustic charm and offers a menu brimming with hearty, home-cooked meals. While specific details about their offerings are limited, the warm ambiance and friendly service made our lunch there truly memorable.

Sweet Treats at Buddy & Howie's Candy Store

Our adventures took us to Ocean Shores, where we stopped at a family-favorite: Buddy & Howie's Candy Store. This delightful shop is a treasure trove of confections, offering a nostalgic array of candies that transported us back to childhood. From Saltwater Taffy to bark fudge, the store provids a delightful experience for our all of our senses.

Nature's Surprise on Point Brown Avenue

As we strolled along Point Brown Avenue, we were pleasantly surprised to encounter several deer grazing nearby. These gentle creatures added a touch of enchantment, reminding us of the area's rich natural beauty and wildlife. We also found the perfect street for a future beach-getaway of our own one day. Watching that one on Redfin!

Mom and son took a walk to the end of the street and found this gem! Can’t wait to come back.

Savory Seafood at Bennett's Fish Shack

You have to eat at Bennett's Fish Shack. Renowned for its award-winning seafood, this vibrant eatery offers a menu featuring hand-breaded fish and chips, flavorful clam chowder, and generous crab rolls. The beach shack decor and welcoming atmosphere made our experience both delicious and delightful. They serve Stubborn Soda, and every single one we tried was delicious and bold. While the boys still preferred the classic flavors, I really enjoyed the Orange Hibiscus soda. Grab a cool t-shirt while you're there!

A Quick Stop in Town

Sharky’s in Ocean Shores is always a fun stop when you’re in town. The first thing you notice is the giant shark mouth entrance - it’s hard to miss and makes for a great photo op. Inside, the place is packed with all kinds of shark-themed gear, from t-shirts and hoodies to toys and quirky souvenirs. It’s a great spot to grab something unique or just browse around. The staff is super friendly too, which adds to the laid-back, beach-town vibe. If you’re in Ocean Shores, Sharky’s is definitely worth checking out.

Damon Point's Restoration

We had hoped to visit Damon Point, a scenic area known for its stunning views and birdwatching opportunities. However, it was closed for restoration efforts aimed at enhancing safe space for people who can't read tide schedules - and get stuck out on the point during high tide. The work will also help preserve the habitat for threatened bird species like the streaked horned lark and snowy plover. While we missed exploring this natural gem, we appreciated the conservation efforts in place.

Charming Oyhut Bay Seaside Village

Our journey wound through Oyhut Bay Seaside Village, a picturesque community nestled near the Oyhut Wildlife Recreation Area. This walkable village boasts classic cottages and condos, offering a nostalgic coastal ambiance. There are little local shops, dining at the Oyhut Bay Grill, and baked goods from the Market & Bakery. The village's amenities, including a playground, bocce ball court, and access to 23 miles of freshwater canals, provide ample opportunities for relaxation and recreation. Perfect for a family weekend getaway!

A Stop at the North Jetty

No visit to Ocean Shores is complete without a walk along the North Jetty, where the Pacific Ocean meets Grays Harbor (side note - I always thought it was odd being called the North Jetty, as it is the Southwest corner of town). Originally built in the early 1900s to protect the harbor entrance, it’s now a favorite spot for wave-watching, beachcombing, and spotting wildlife like seals and seabirds. With panoramic ocean views and the roar of waves crashing against the rocks, it’s a breathtaking reminder of the power and beauty of the coast. Just be sure to tread carefully - those jetty rocks can be slick!

Final Stop: Elma Rest Area

Our last stop on the way home was the Elma Rest Area off SR 8 - a peaceful place to stretch our legs and, of course, a necessary potty break.

Nestled in a grove of tall trees, the rest area surprised us with its quiet beauty. We took a moment to explore the small park nearby, where we admired the lush Pacific Northwest ferns growing under the canopy. It turned out to be more than just a quick stop—it was a brief but grounding final moment with nature before heading back to reality.
